Speed, punctuality and reliability are three essential characteristics of modern, attractive rail systems and are prerequisites for customer-oriented rail operations and efficient rail infrastructure. As rail is an environmentally friendly and sustainable mode of transport, great efforts have been made in recent decades to modernize this infrastructure. However, much remains to be done to prepare rail infrastructure for future challenges.
